Coronavirus Tax Relief Checks

You’ve probably heard the news by now – the government is sending out Tax Relief Checks as part of the federal response to the Coronavirus. Scammers heard the same thing, and they’re hoping to cash in on yours.

Here are some things to know:

1.    You Don’t Need to Do Anything If
Your 2018 or 2019 tax refund was direct deposited into your account.  If you received a check in the past, you can sign up for direct deposit of your check through irs.gov/coronavirus-tax-relief-and-economic-impact-payments.
 

2.    You Don’t Have to Sign-Up
You don’t have to sign up for a relief check. Anyone contacting you asking for personal information like social security number, Bank or Credit Union information or your PayPal account is a SCAMMER.
 

3.    The Timeline Is Not Exact
The timeline for this process is not exact, but it looks like funds will start going out in the next few weeks. Scammers are using the lack of details to trick people into giving out their personal information - Don't fall for it!
